Melony Woodall was the Statewide, Director of Nursing (DON) responsible for "nursing services" to the State of Arizona Corrections Department while I was the Vice President of Operations for the Arizona contract with Corizon from Oct 2014 through Oct 2016. The scope of her responsibilities included oversight of nursing services to the entire state inmate population,. Melony is a very capable healthcare executive. She fulfilled all of her duties beyond expectations. She was able to significantly improve clinical and operational performance by systematically analyzing current processes and protocols and making necessary changes. Melony developed a new centralized onboarding process for nursing staff where she onboarded new employees in our corporate office in Tempe, AZ for one week. This allowed her to get to personally know all new onboarded nurses as well as transition new hires into the world of correctional healthcare. This process significantly increased retention and allowed Melony to personally take part of the new hires onboarding process. Melony was willing to assist in any capacity needed and was instrumental in educating nursing staff. The state was under a court ordered decree which resulted in multiple audits. Crossing T's and dotting I's were a priority and Melony's assistance in helping the nursing staff understand the accountability was beyond approach. I heartily endorse Melony as a healthcare executive of unquestioned character and integrity and a highly skilled leader able to reengineer clinical and administrative processes to improve care and reduce inefficiencies. I had the pleasure of working with Melony over nearly 10 years in the correctional health care field. I was always impressed with Melony’s work ethic and her broad scope of knowledge and skills. Regardless of the task or the depth of challenges she faced Melony always approached tasks with the tenacity and determination to get things done. I watched Melony lead teams as well as be part of teams lead by others and always felt like her participation meant things would be done well. I look forward to speaking about Melony’s skills with anyone fortunate enough to have her on their team.
