Responsible for all Health and Safety in the geotechnical laboratories. Training for all geotechnical lab equipment. Perform standard laboratory tests including, Standard and Modified Proctor compaction tests, Grain Size Analysis using Sieve and Hydrometer Methods, Relative Density, Atterberg Limits, Flexible Wall Hydraulic Conductivity, Direct Shear, Consolidation, Triaxial and Soil Water Characteristic curves. Preparation of rock samples for testing which would require cutting with diamond drills, grinding and strain gauging. Performance of tests on rock samples such as Uniaxial Compression, and tensile, Surface Roughness, Simple Shear, Free Swell, Semi-Confined Swell and Null Deformation tests.Preparing and demonstrating equipment and samples required for undergraduate as well as graduate teaching laboratories, assisting graduate students with designing, building and testing their research apparatus, calibration of equipment and occasional field work involving sampling and testing.
