I work specifically with children who have a harder time adapting to their classroom and social surroundings in the following ways: 1) I lead small groups of 3-5 children emphasizing collaborative problem solving using evidence-based social-emotional curriculum. 2) Direct one-on-one play time, focusing on building lagging skills (social skills, anger management, self-reflection). 3) Facilitate community circles classrooms (currently K-2) where we discuss monthly community themes and build collaboration skills with cooperative games. 4) Work in classrooms alongside students who are having difficulties to help teachers and kids arrive at solutions for problem behavior. 5) Meet regularly with teachers, administration and staff to make recommendations or to modify implementation of plans, curriculum, etc. Show less

I designed and implemented emergent curriculum in an age-integrated (2.9 to 5 year old) classroom. I also delivered mid-level training in positive discipline techniques to parents and other caregivers. The ultimate goal of Mission Kids Co-op is first and foremost to build a community of cooperation and compassion predicated on the belief that parents working in the classroom contribute to the well being of children and, to that end, society at large. • Co-Founder/Director/Lead Care Provider
      • Aug 2003 - Aug 2005

RedFishBlueFish Co-op was founded by myself and two parents as a means to providing affordable care for families with toddlers aged 12-36 months old. Under my direction, parents assisted in caring for their kids in groups of six or seven. In turn parents learned how to turn their intuitive skills into practical skills. Parents learned how to gauge temperament and learning modalities, and also had a lot of fun. In my capacity as Lead Care Provider, my goal was to bring parents into the education and care of their children. I encouraged them to ask questions and to seek answers that would benefit not only their family, but the families within the community that they were helping to build. Show less
