During my eight weeks as a human resources intern at Northwestern Mutual, I had the pleasure of having Melissa Craighill, HR Manager, as my supervisor. Melissa always had a positive attitude, which made it easy to communicate with her and ask her questions. She was very welcoming and helpful from start to finish. I felt like I was a part of the team and that my views mattered. Melissa provided great feedback throughout my internship and she welcomed my feedback as well. She trusted me with major projects, which allowed me to be introduced to different aspects of HR. I was able to shadow her doing a variety of tasks and I also had valuable hands-on experience that I can use in the future. She helped to ensure that I received plenty of learning opportunities from my internship. Melissa cared about my work as an intern, but also about me as an individual. I feel that is a great quality to have in a supervisor. Lastly, I appreciated that she challenged me to grow and I know that I have grown in the amount of time I was there.
