During my time as a Student Teacher at Tony Pontes Elementary School in a 5/6 split class, I gained valuable experience using Universally Designed Lessons and Classroom (UDL) strategies. As a gradeless school, Tony Pontes values the importance of creating inclusive and engaging learning environments for all students. Through the use of integrated units and lessons, I was able to create meaningful connections between various subjects and help students see the relevance and real-world applications of their learning. I worked closely with the teacher to plan and deliver lessons that were accessible and engaging for all students, regardless of their learning needs or abilities. My experience at Tony Pontes allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the importance of creating inclusive and diverse learning environments, and how the use of UDL strategies can benefit all learners. I was also able to see the value of student-centered approaches to learning and how it can help to create a positive and engaging classroom culture. Overall, my experience teaching at Tony Pontes was incredibly rewarding and helped me to develop my skills as an educator. It was a valuable opportunity to learn from experienced teachers, work with a diverse group of students, and gain practical experience in creating meaningful and inclusive learning experiences. Working as a server at the Pickle Barrel Restaurant for two years was a challenging yet fulfilling experience. The restaurant was always busy, and the shifts were long, but I enjoyed the fast-paced environment and the opportunity to interact with a variety of customers. One of the biggest challenges was taking large parties single-handedly, but I learned how to manage my time effectively and provide excellent service to each guest. I also developed my multitasking and problem-solving skills, which helped me to handle unexpected situations with ease. Overall, my experience at the Pickle Barrel taught me the importance of hard work, time management, and teamwork, and I am grateful for the skills and experience that I gained during my time there. During my time volunteering at Artesian Drive Public School, I had the opportunity to work in a kindergarten classroom that placed a strong emphasis on differentiation and anecdotal observations. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into the different learning styles and needs of young learners, and how to adapt my teaching strategies accordingly. One of the most memorable experiences during my time at Artesian Drive was planning and implementing a "Holidays Around the World" unit with the students. We explored different holiday traditions from around the world, including Las Posadas, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. Together, we created a display to showcase what we had learned and to celebrate the diversity of our classroom community. We discussed the different aspects of our identities, including our cultures, families, and personal interests. Through various activities and discussions, we celebrated the diversity within our classroom community and learned to appreciate each other's unique backgrounds and experiences. This focus on identity allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of inclusivity and representation in the classroom. It also reinforced the idea that every student is unique and brings their own experiences and perspectives to the classroom. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such an enriching and empowering learning environment. Through my experiences at Artesian Drive, I learned the importance of differentiation and observation in the classroom to better support the needs of each student, and to foster a sense of belonging and community within the classroom. • Earl Bales Community Day Camp
    • Toronto, Ontario, Canada
    • Arts Specialist
      • Jul 2019 - Aug 2022

As an Arts and Crafts specialist at Earl Bales Community Day Camp, my role involved working closely with children aged 4-10, co-teaching with other camp counselors, and planning and creating materials for the entire summer. I was responsible for designing a curriculum of activities that would engage and challenge the children while also being appropriate for their skill level. This involved being creative and innovative, coming up with new ideas and projects that would capture the children's imagination and keep them motivated throughout the summer. I needed to be organized and detail-oriented, ensuring that all necessary materials were ready and available when needed. In addition to planning and leading daily activities, I was also responsible for creating materials for camp-themed days. For example, we had a "Super Mario" day, and I created costumes and decorations that fit with this theme, as well as crafts that the children could make to get into the spirit of the day. One of the highlights of my role as an Arts and Crafts specialist was hosting parent nights. This was a chance to showcase the children's work and to connect with parents, building relationships with them and showing them the positive impact that our program was having on their children's lives. I needed to be confident and articulate, explaining the activities that the children had done and answering any questions that parents might have. Working at Earl Bales Community Day Camp was a fun and rewarding experience that allowed me to make a positive impact on the lives of the children I worked with. It was exciting to see the children grow and develop over the course of the summer, gaining new skills and becoming more confident in their abilities. I felt privileged to be a part of this process and to have the opportunity to help shape the next generation of young artists and creatives. Show less

Working at Hockley Valley Resort as both a patio server and fine dining server was a unique and fulfilling experience. As a patio server, I had the opportunity to serve guests in a more casual setting while still maintaining the high level of service and attention to detail that is expected at a resort of this caliber. Interacting with guests in an outdoor setting provided a different dynamic and allowed for a more relaxed atmosphere. As a fine dining server, I was responsible for ensuring that every aspect of the guest's experience was exceptional. This included being knowledgeable about the menu, wine pairings, and the resort's history and services. The fine dining environment required a higher level of professionalism and attention to detail, and I took pride in providing a memorable experience for guests. Both roles required me to work efficiently and effectively in a team environment, ensuring that every guest's needs were met promptly and courteously. The fast-paced nature of the resort required me to be adaptable and quick-thinking, which helped me develop my problem-solving and communication skills. Show less
