I am interested in water management and planning, which I am covering with my electives. My dissertation is focussed on the tension that exists in New Zealand between protecting productive land and allowing for urban development. I am looking at the issue by asking the planning profession, developers and the food production sector how the current and proposed model for resolving the tension sits with them. As I began my postgraduate studies I was privileged to be able to help a former colleague set up their own employment law advocacy business. My role covered everything from business set up to client meetings as well as assisting at mediations and the Employment Relations Authority. This was a fantastic experience where I learnt a lot about business management and managing client expectations. I decided to follow my passion in Resource Management and started a Master in Resource Management and Environmental Planning part-time, via distance at Massey University halfway through 2017. I have found the challenge of the Master's degree to be very rewarding, and the discipline involved in studying by distance to be an important time management skill. Due to personal circumstances it became prudent to switch to full time study which I did following a year of distance, part-time learning. It was more feasible to do this at Lincoln University as it was physically close to where I live.

    • Research Intern
      • Jul 2015 - Dec 2015

This position involved looking at a hidden ephemera collection of theatre and concert programmes held by the Macmillan Brown. Housed in filing cabinets, away from public access, little was known about the collection apart from a very small paragraph on the Library website. The aim of the internship was to make the collection more visible. This was achieved by speaking at University seminars, writing a journal article (currently under review), and writing a webpage showcasing the collection (currently being reviewed and processed).
