Melissa is a great advocate for students when they first enroll at Cañada College. She is a retention specialist for students enrolled in basic skills and I appreciate how she connects with her students. When students need services and are unsure how to navigate, she provides a warm hand off to the students looking for the appropriate programs. There are times, especially during the beginning of the semester, Melissa has helped me concise my work load that coexist with EOPS and basic skills. Because of Melissa's great help, we are able to contact and connect with those students in our shared roster at a great turn around rate and ultimately to start closing equity gaps as best as we can.

Melissa is a colleague that I can count on without hesitation at Cañada College. She provides insightful knowledge to the different committees that we both serve on such as the DREAMER’s Task Force and our summer bridge program, COLTS-Con. Melissa coordinated a proactive registration event where she invited staff and faculty to support our ESL students. As a staff supporter for the event, I witnessed Melissa’s leadership in programmatic efforts and engaging presentation skills. Melissa is approachable and has the ability to make students feel at ease, contributing to the inclusive and welcoming environment that is Cañada College.
