In response to the growing health needs of immigrant students in Milford Public Schools, this position assists in reducing barriers to timely health care by connecting newly immigrated families/students to available community health resources using proactive, personalized outreach and follow-up. Many immigrant students joining Milford Public Schools lack the vaccinations and prior physical exams needed to enroll in school, thus delaying their entry into the classroom with their peers. In addition, they lack access to health coverage, creating another obstacle to essential preventative care. As a tri-lingual Health Care Resource Nurse, I am able to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to help reduce health disparities and achieve health equity in the community.
