As the Academic Advisor and the Coordinator of Students with Disabilities Program at Cascadia Community College, I have had the pleasure of knowing Melissa Clark during the last two years. She is a valued student and a valued work study student employed at the position as Sustainability Outreach Coordinator! It has been a joy to watch her excel and succeed academically and professionally. Melissa has dedicated herself to this campus and her career goals. She will be one of our first graduates of our new Environmental Technology Sustainable Practices degree. As the Sustainability Outreach Coordinator, she created the Presidential Climate Commitment –Emissions inventory. This is a huge task for a student to take on. Melissa has worked with many of our staff and faculty to make this happen. She has learned to collaborate with many people, listen to diverse view points and then create spreadsheets listing all the gathered data. This survey has been a huge success at Cascadia. We are now able to rack this data and make decisions based on hard data. Mellissa is also involved in our student body. Last year she created the first Sustainability Club at our college. She is committed to a Green College and is excited to use both her people skills and environmental technology experience to move forward in this career. Her future goals include designing HUD housing projects for sustainability or consulting for sustainability compliance to help the environment. She would also like to achieve LEED certification before graduating. She is conscientious with all of her work and I have enjoyed watching her grow as a student and now a leader at this campus! I whole heartedly would without any reservation recommend Melissa to you for scholarship or position. Her drive and abilities is a tremendous asset to our college.

I'd recommend Melissa based on a number of factors, but I'll focus on her intelligence and determination. We worked together to build, improve and deliver a complex data analysis service for Mckinstry and from the moment she stepped into the project Melissa understood the end goal and how we needed to get there. She was shockingly quick to understand concepts and was quickly able to go beyond my reasoning and improve the process using her instincts and natural intelligence. I tell people she is one of the smartest people I've ever come across, in life or in the office. On the determination front she is fiercely dedicated to sustainability and seems to be driven by the higher goal of doing right, not just doing business. It was inspiring to me to see that in a person, and reminded me of the bigger picture of what we were all about at McKinstry. I'd recommend Melissa to a team that wants employees who take on big, complicated processes, see the big picture, and care about getting the job done right.
