Live-trapping state-threatened Franklin's ground squirrels in Sangamon County, IL. We trap and PIT-tag adult and juveniles. This also involves radio-collaring and radio-tracking juveniles to collect dispersal data. A minimum of five location points are collected for each radio-collared juvenile each day. Location points are determined through homing or triangulation, and are marked with a GPS.

      - Radio-tracked and recorded daily habitat use for collared northern bobwhite quail on Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area- Trapped, banded, and radio-collared quail; and assisted with other projects as neededI successfully trapped 53 hatch year and after-hatch year male and female quail at Glendale Fish & Wildlife area using dove traps. All quails were banded, and a high proportion were fitted with radio-collars. Collared quail were tracked every day during fall and spring, and tracked every other day during the winter months. Quail locations were either found via triangulation or homing, and recorded on a GPS. GPS points were mapped using ArcMap software. Habitat data was taken for each quail location, each day.

During the months of May-August each year, I monitored Great Lakes Piping Plovers on their breeding grounds in northern Michigan. My responsibilities included monitoring Piping Plovers in Seney, Manistee and at Silver Lake State Park by searching for nests, collecting resighting colored band combinations for mark recapture, and interacting with public on beaches regarding Piping Plovers. Other duties included assisting the banding crew, and assisting US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Ludington State Park workers by constructing predator exclosures and closing off beach areas. In the 2011 and 2012 field seasons, I was part of the banding crew based of the University of Michigan's Biological Station. We traveled all over the state of Michigan banding Great Lakes Piping Plover adults and chicks. My responsibilities on the crew were as a data recorder, banding and assisting with banding, maintenance of field equipment, cooperating with the public and government agencies, and training others in the capture of wild piping plover chicks. My schedule was often unpredictable, with long hours and overnight trips.

In central Wyoming, I collected daily position data and video data during lek time for greater sage-grouse. I identified individuals on three different leks by their unique butt-spot pattern. I also assisted with sexual selection and acoustic communication projects by setting up experiments. Getting to some of the sites involved extensive use of ATVs and 4WD vehicles, often in the dark and on variable terrain. I also assisted with capturing of adult sage-grouse by use of spot-lighting and netting during the late night/early morning hours. After catching a grouse, I assisted with field measurements and banding. For this project work out of the field involved analyzing video data from experiments, maintenance of microphone cables, cleaning of field gear, and maintenance of vehicles.
