All content is focused on essential skills that meet fifth grade common core objectives.Math is very hands one, with digital integration, whole group, small group, and individual activities, as well as, student learning through development of personalized math strategies, that builds upon their knowledge, and traditional mathematical algorithm’s. All content is based on common core objectives, with daily student learning targets. This affords the students a learning target they are able to meet and explain.Science taught with scientific investigations, as well as art and technology integrated activities. Science learning standards based on fifth grade common core objectives are integrated daily with a strong emphasize on student learning targets and creative based assessments.I also integrate a variety of curriculum models that engage students through variety, critical thinking, and project based activities. I understand the value of assessments, and integrate a variety of student assessments, used to help guide future instruction. Understanding the value of a comfortable learning environment is goal and focus each year. All instruction is implemented through a PLC focus-to ensure student growth and mastery. Show less

As a literacy specialist I create and present professional development literacy-reading presentations that will benefit students within all content areas. This includes reading elements and various reading strategies that will benefit all students. This can include types of paired/partner readings, dyad reading, and choral reads, as well as various graphic organizers think-alouds, and modeling. All are presented and modeled, and then focused on for a month within all classrooms. The goal/intention is for students being familiar with the same reading concept within all content areas-promoting transfer of skills within all curriculum and content areas.As a middle school reading teacher I am working with students within grades 6-8 who are struggling readers, or well below their expected grade level Lexile score. Students are working on all aspects of reading including: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. This is done in a variety of situations including, individually, small group, pairs, and whole group environments. All lessons are explicitly taught, and done in a to, with, by format, promoting gradual release and individual practice. The intention is to have lessons that focus on individual students needs-to fill in their holes, while also meeting grade level common core standards though close reading activities within rigorous texts that are at grade level. Currently teach sixth grade English in middle school, within an A/B rotation schedule. Teaching focus includes; reading fluency, comprehension, writing, grammar, and building skills for higher level thinking (DOK 2-4). All instruction includes cooperative learning through integration of Kagan strategies. Teaching comprises differentiated instruction, whole class, small group, and individual learning, as well as interventions. Instruction is based on sixth grade Common Core, as well as specific essential skills crucial to their language arts learning.I integrate a variety of curriculum models that engage students through variety, critical thinking, and project based activities. I understand the value of assessments, and integrate a variety of student assessments, used to help guide future instruction. Understanding the value of a comfortable learning environment is goal and focus each year. I incorporate cooperative activities both focused on content and class building. I have seen the growth, development, and positive results from a strong classroom community that promotes tolerance and acceptance. As department chair, I present at district data days to the board and superintendent. I attend monthly leadership meetings, and guide and plan our weekly PLC meetings. I am extremely organized, and work well with others through listening and understanding. I am also very comfortable with analyzing and using data to help guide future instruction, interventions, in helping students grow and develop academically. Show less
