      As a literacy specialist I create and present professional development literacy-reading presentations that will benefit students within all content areas. This includes reading elements and various reading strategies that will benefit all students. This can include types of paired/partner readings, dyad reading, and choral reads, as well as various graphic organizers think-alouds, and modeling. All are presented and modeled, and then focused on for a month within all classrooms. The goal/intention is for students being familiar with the same reading concept within all content areas-promoting transfer of skills within all curriculum and content areas.As a middle school reading teacher I am working with students within grades 6-8 who are struggling readers, or well below their expected grade level Lexile score. Students are working on all aspects of reading including: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. This is done in a variety of situations including, individually, small group, pairs, and whole group environments. All lessons are explicitly taught, and done in a to, with, by format, promoting gradual release and individual practice. The intention is to have lessons that focus on individual students needs-to fill in their holes, while also meeting grade level common core standards though close reading activities within rigorous texts that are at grade level. As department chair, I present at district data days to the board and superintendent. I attend monthly leadership meetings, and guide and plan our weekly PLC meetings. I am extremely organized, and work well with others through listening and understanding.
