  A leader working within a fast-paced, high pressure and high profile environment to drive and deliver a broad range of strategic communication services and activities involving both internal and external stakeholders.During my time in this agency and while undergoing a major merge between two government agencies, I was responsible for leading and delivering a new brand that had to consider the new agency’s mission, the complexity of two different cultures, a workforce of more than 15,000 staff as well as an international external audience. I was entrusted and asked to act two levels above my substantive position to oversee the external communication function and a team of nine, during a time of high profile issues, events and campaigns. I held meetings with the secretary of the department and other senior staff in relation to communication activities and provided strategic communication advice. I managed the internal communication function, and a team of eight staff that administered the internal communication channels, and was responsible for communicating to thousands of staff as well as support the executive with messaging. I initiated and developed the Department’s communication strategy that was endorsed by the secretary I received a Gold Quill Award from the International Association of Business Communicators for revitalising internal communication. I drove the early adoption of merged teams and introduced combined media reporting prior to integration so staff could begin to learn and understand the broader agency functions and strategic environment. I also developed and managed, with the support of the CEO, the new agency internal communication plan; agency communication framework and narrative; the writing style guide; new interactive newsletter; supported designers in the development of the visual style guide and rolled out the new brand and its story to staff.
