Kyle King
Melinda is gifted in many ways and in her time at Green School has aptly shaped the Academic Advising role to match with the one-of-a-kind educational experience. Melinda adds value to Green School in both the short and long term. Melinda is ready for action on a daily basis and deftly pivots, in response to the flowing nature of Green School, to meet student learning and advising needs. Additionally, Melinda is able to think strategically. She led a team to brainchild and now implement a system of diploma options that syncs with Green School pathway learning and is real world relevant. This is not only testament to Melinda's ambitious nature and collegial attitude, but a significant contribution to the evolution of Green School. Melinda lives the Green School mission and continues to effect change within our "Community of Learners Making our World more Sustainable".

As both my academic advisor and homeroom teacher, Melinda supported me throughout my ambitions and challenges at the Green School. Because of her strong background in journalism, I often went to seek out her help for my own writing. She became my main mentor for my senior capstone project which involved an ethnographic study conducted through immersion journalism practices. Although Melinda helps to ensure the academic success of Green School students, she takes a holistic approach in her guidance, recognizing that not all students are meant to take the same path. She is skilled at offering advice without overly imposing her ideas and opinions on her advisees. After speaking with her, I have a clearer idea of what it is I want to do, instead of feeling I have been told what to do. Melinda is someone I will always feel comfortable reaching out to for support.
