I have worked with Mel since she started her position at Carey. I have benefited by learning science while assisting in her classes. I love her enthusiasm for teaching and admire her prepardiness and organization for each lesson. Mel is passionate about the environment and we have collaborated on Earth Day activites and assemblies for the school. This included hiring a mini-zoo of farm animals to introduce animal husbandry to collecting hundreds of pounds of plastics to create plastic sealife sculptures as an expression of art and awarness to the detrimental impact of plastics in our oceans. Mel has also taught in camps I ran during the school breaks. I could always rest assured that she could manage the classes of multiaged students along with teaching exciting and engaging science lessons at the camp. I would recommend Mel for any job, project or internship. She is responsible, detailed oriented and always follows through above and beyond expectation.

Students make 2D scientific sketches and drawings and then create 3D models to tell science stories.Participates in school-wide experiential, interdisciplinary, theme-based assemblies with other teachers including the art teacher either in person or via Zoom. The assemblies allow students to share their in-class science projects. A representative assembly topic, Food Around the World, focuses on ecosystems, sustainability, and cross-pollination.Partnering with the garden coordinator and homeroom teachers, introduces the Citizen Science construct to students while leading inquiry-based nature field trips and outdoor hikes.
