Melanie and I started with The Millennia Companies in February of 2013. I cannot take the credit for hiring her. However, we spent time together during the New Manager training where I really got to see the personal side of her. She worked in Jamestown, NY and I was at the corporate office in Cleveland, OH. Therefore, most interaction was via electronic communication. I really enjoyed her as a person and a leader for one of the blended properties in our portfolio. Before coming to Millennia, I worked for the county housing authority. I immediately saw the difference with management styles. Melanie was newer to the industry, but she grabbed the bull by the horns and made it her mission to learn all there was to know about affordable housing. She became certified in many areas (high scores too!) while maintaining her property, her second job and her personal life. Melanie had low turnover in her staff and her resident reports. She knows how to effectively communicate to and with diverse populations. She also has a great sense of humor. People can identify with her and give her the respect she deserves. Melanie is intelligent, driven and loyal. I have heard many stories from her regarding trying to increase the safety of Jamestown. She means well and is trying to use that passion to speak for those who don't have as loud of a voice. She is one of a kind. If she would move to Cleveland, I would hire her and figure out the details later!
