Bio
I was lucky enough to work under Mel during her time as Managing Editor at the Money Advice Service. She always went to bat for the team and never shied away from difficult conversations – an attribute which meant our content strategy was well thought out and earned her the respect of the team. During her time here, we grew not only our audience, but also our engagement rate. She proved invaluable in terms of getting stakeholder buy in for key digital initiatives and spearheaded our plain language campaign. The latter resulted in us being awarded a Clear English Standard certification and our website being much more accessible to users. I learnt plenty from Mel and being on her team greatly helped my personal development. I would not hesitate to recommend her for leadership roles.
Melanie is a great leader who has a very inclusive & collaborative style. On our recent projects together at Which? - including the re-design of the homepage and a global navigation system - she led from the front, managed a complex set of senior stakeholders, worked hard to create a really positive team atmosphere and shared vision from the outset, and ultimately delivered two complex projects with minimal fuss, ahead of deadline and on budget. In my opinion her key strengths are: - a real understanding of digital and everything that goes into delivering a quality digital product from UX, design, UI dev, project planning and technical architecture. She is also particularly knowledgeable on digital content strategy and editorial requirements (not surprising given her long service as Head of Digital content at Which?) - a proven ability to deliver no matter the obstacles - excellent managerial and leadership skills to motivate an extended team of 20+ people ( and manage a budget in doing so of well over £1million) - managing to keep a cool-head with multiple stakeholders with various different agendas, and steer projects through these potential blockers to successful completion - a unique ability to hire and build exceedingly specialised and diverse teams from scratch that are effective, cohesive and well motivated. Understandably these team members she personally recruited had great respect and loyalty for Melanie - which obviously made for a very positive team environment.
