I knew Dr Meiyun Chang-Smith since I was a PhD student at CCMS from 2007. She is a very nice person and helped me a lot during my PhD period. Meiyun was directly responsible for professional mentoring of the CCMS group members. All of us enjoyed the time in CCMS. As the Founding manager, Meiyun is incredibly generous with her time and expertise, which included everything from management experience to an understanding of the research endeavour. I would be happy to recommend her for any such related positions.

I have known Meiyun for more than 10 years since I was a visiting PhD student in the University of Queensland. Meiyun is the Founding Manager of Centre for Computational Molecular Science (CCMS). She not only made essential contributions for the establishment of the centre, including formulating the centre culture, official website, optimizing the structure, but also actively managed the centre, helping the centre director on basic running, and strengthening the key collaborations with national and international links, which is really helpful for CCMS to be recognized internationally. In addition, Meiyun has played the key role in the training of early members (PhD students, postdocs, visitors, etc). CCMS has an excellent multiculture environment, which has benefited from Meiyun's personal experience. Her passion and professional service to CCMS helped all centre members. She is always the helper and friend to us. In brief, Meiyun is a professional manager. I would recommend Meiyun without any hesitation to manage any research centre.

As with my previous senior managerial roles for graduate education and outreach at JINS/ORNL in the US, my current senior managerial role continues my vision and passion in advocating and facilitating open free access to inspirational collaborative graduate level coursework for HDR students and ECRs. I lead the establishment, coordination, and management of the inaugural graduate education program for full semester collaborative online teaching. Renowned professors and scientists are invited from across the research sector on the basis of expertise and reputation to contribute voluntarily into graduate-level courses. The curriculum designs support HDR students and ECRs working in the space between HPCD and various application domains. Show less

    • Associate Director for Education, UT-ORNL Joint Institute for Neutron Sciences (JINS)
      • 2011 - 2014

I co-organized, coordinated and launched the cyber-enabled collaborative graduate education initiative in neutron science, conceiving a specific operational model and raising two international distance courses: Neutron Scattering in Quantum Condensed Matter Physics in the fall semester of 2012 and Neutrons in Soft Matter Science in the fall semester of 2013. Collectively, these two courses integrated contributions from leading specialists in neutron scattering across the US and internationally, making comprehensive graduate level lectures available live to the international neutron scattering and related science communities. My coordinating role involved handling all aspects of outreach to the university stakeholders within the US and internationally; collaborative planning of the course content with key co-organizing professors; engaging and negotiating with prospective professorial contributors; interacting and coordinating with IT staff; hosting the live online lectures using the Adobe Connect conferencing platform; editing of recordings and production of flash video files for subsequent web streaming; as well as designing promotional material and websites. I was also majorly involved in organization of several neutron scattering workshops for novices organized from JINS. Online Video Lectures: http://neutrons.ornl.gov/neutrons-videos Show less
