Fargo Food Tours

-
Founder / Operations Manager / Tour Guide
-
Apr 2019 - Oct 2019
Fargo's food scene is incredible, but its tourism experiences needed a boost. Using this gap, I worked with local restaurants to create Fargo's first-ever food tours. Front-end, I acted as tour guide, delivering customer service and giving participants a memorable walk through downtown Fargo (and plenty to eat!). On the back-end, I orchestrated arrival times, menus, costs, and relationships with the restaurants. Other behind-the-scenes responsibilities included: writing the script for the tours, building the website from scratch using Wix.com, managing bookings, inquiries, and payment from customers, running social media (Instagram and Facebook) for the tours, and creating other marketing materials (i.e. brochures) for the company. Apr 2018 - Oct 2019
CONTENT MANAGEMENT - Managed the Visit Fargo-Moorhead blog, which included auditing, redirecting, and recycling old content, plus writing new pieces to fill gaps. - Assigned and edited blogs from other writers, including guest writers, as well as wrote one blog per week. - Created a full blog and website content plan for 2019 and 2020 based on keywords and SEO gaps. - Set goals for our content (i.e. longer time on page, reduced bounce rate) and tracked performance of key pieces of content. - Used CoSchedule to execute the scheduling and deadlines for all working pieces of content. - Project managed all writing for our biggest content project of the year, an 80-page Visitors' Guide. SEO & WEBSITE MANAGEMENT - Analyzed and created a list of search keywords relating to Fargo and our tourism entities that our marketing team could use in online materials, using Google's Keyword Planner and Moz's Keyword Explorer. - As part of the content plan, I re-wrote stakeholder listings and static website pages using these keywords to make our pages more user- and search-friendly. - Worked with our in-house multimedia manager to improve website listings and pages with professional photography. - Presented ideas for new website content to fill in search gaps and worked them into the content plan. SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT - Managed Visit Fargo-Moorhead's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn presences (@fargomoorhead on each). - Revamped the company's Pinterest presence, leading to Pinterest becoming the third highest source of organic traffic to our website (after search and Facebook). - Used CoSchedule to schedule original content and share out links to blog posts. - Created graphics and Pinterest images using Canva. - Organized and ran several small-scale paid social media campaigns using Facebook Business Manager as part of larger marketing campaigns. Beyond this, I worked with the marketing team to brainstorm and execute campaigns. Show less

Content Marketing Executive
-
Mar 2017 - Nov 2017
Through this position with a digital marketing agency based in England, I learned the inside workings of search engine optimization, content creation and digital marketing. Software I worked with included (but is not limited to): SEMRush, DeepCrawl, Buffer, the Google Suite, Moz, Beegit, GatherContent, and Redbooth. My tasks ranged from completing weekly tasks for clients such as keyword research and internal link planning to writing articles ranging from complex digital strategy pieces to simple travel guides. I also conducted SEO audits, link audits, and internal link audits, and well as helped with outreach to bloggers to gain valuable backlinks. Beyond Ad-Rank, I helped the CEO begin to develop an international copywriting agency. This involved identifying new business prospects, securing meetings with them and helping to make minor fixes to a Wordpress website that adapted to regions and countries based on visitor location. Guest Service Representative

Jan 2016 - Aug 2016
As the first face a guest saw in the hotel, I was accountable for starting his or her experience off on a positive note. This also meant that when a guest had an issue, I was responsible for heading it off and finding the best route to a quick resolution. I joined Hilton Garden Inn during a time of high turnover in upper management and the fast-paced changes allowed me to adapt to working with multiple management styles. Staff Writer

Sep 2012 - May 2016
To expand my journalistic writing style, I wrote pieces for both the Features and Opinion section of this student-run newspaper. I had twice-weekly deadlines to meet (one per section) and was in charge of creating my own content, titles, and even imaging in some cases. The position gave me the opportunity to continue honing my writing skills. I learned the importance of taking full credibility and responsibility for articles and the value of reader feedback. Adult Recreation Director / Staff Intern
-
Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
A fresh set of over 150 guests arrived at the resort each week, and it was my job to inform them of daily adult activities as well as to publicize resort-wide events. I planned, marketed, and executed all adult recreation activities (from golf and tennis tournaments to Family Trivia to a Paints and Pints event) each week, plus handled any guest complaints. This involved redesigning all marketing material and paperwork to improve aesthetics, reorganizing and improving equipment, and actually running the event in its entirety. Show less

Assistant to Conference Program Coordinator
-
Oct 2013 - Aug 2014
My role as assistant was primarily administrative, and I worked closely with the university's Conference Coordinator to execute all summer events on campus from USA Wrestling to North Dakota State FFA Convention. We worked on large- and small-scale events, coordinating with NDSU Housing and NDSU Dining Services to make sure that everyone remained updated on campus events. I also redesigned most of the documentation for my supervisor. Previously, all documents had been faxed back and forth up to 20 times with small changes, so I made a fillable online format that could be updated and emailed between parties. Show less

My first experience in customer service, I worked with both parents and children to create a safe environment. Every weekday, I taught between 15 to 25 children of varying skill levels the basics of water survival and swimming. After my third year, I became a head lifeguard and began managing scheduling, time clocks, and disagreements between guards. It was a great way to gain experience on how to lead among peers.
