I am currently working at one of Canada's most prominent courier services, doing deliveries of e-commerce packages to homes and apartment buildings in Burlington and the local surrounding area. We have of course seen an influx of these types of deliveries amidst the Covid 19 pandemic, where access to local stores and businesses has been much more limited. Counselling Intern

In this clinical counselling placement, I managed an ongoing caseload of up to 12 clients a week over a 3 day period, as well as supporting additional clients for single session appointments through the agency's virtual walk-in service. I worked with a wide spanning client base, including youth and adult clients, on an expansive array of presenting issues, including eating disorder management, chronic pain management, intimate violence, and veteran Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to name a few. I operated using an eclectic therapeutic approach, combining aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma Informed Approaches, and Self-Compassion work to aid my client's ability to be able to thrive amidst their present and historical life challenges.

Placement Student

In this placement, I provided direct clinical counselling to youth within the Alternative Education sector of the School Board. I provided mental health counselling for issues such as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and eating disorders. I worked primarily from the board's primary clinical framework of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while also including elements of Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Skills. Additionally, I would work within a multi disciplinary team of teachers and school administrators to create school plans to promote student learning, engagement, and success based on each student's particular needs or challenges to attending school. I also briefly helped to co-facilitate a board wide anxiety treatment group, also rooted in CBT, before the group was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid 19.

I completed a summer block placement at the hospital working with the Centralized Care and Transitions team (CCATT). Our team helped support and prepare families of geriatric patients navigate their hospital stay and longer term care facility options. I ran family meetings, interviewed patients and their families to identify their core needs, completed case noting, and toured multiple care facilities in the community. Awarded Teacher of the Quarter January-March 2017. I spent the year living in Vietnam teaching English as a second language. I taught toodlers, children, teens and adults, all ranging in ability from Beginners up to Advanced levels. I was responsible for creating and executing original lesson plans based on a specified course syllabi that emphasized the four basic language skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking. I also worked on error correction and classroom management. My class sizes ranged from 8-20 students.

Working at RBC has provided an excellent transition from student life into the working world. As a Banking Advisor, I work on the front lines of customer service taking client calls. I assist over 100 customers per day, answering their questions, providing sound banking advice, and doing anything I can to ensure our clients experience with RBC is a positive one. The RBC team has been so warm and welcoming to me already- it's amazing to be part of such a passionate and diverse team of individuals.

I spent the last four summers working as a camp counsellor with the City of Burlington. I began as a Program Leader before moving into a Senior Staff position for my final two summers. This job has helped me develop crucial skills, such as team management, leadership and cooperation. I was responsible for overseeing, mentoring and evaluating as many as three Program Staff in a summer. It has also afforded me crucial customer service experience through my interactions with not only superiors and colleagues, but also parents and campers alike. I needed to be able to be a superior multi-tasker, balancing site administration, program planning and dealing with daily behaviour issues.

It helped me to develop the ability to connect with clients quickly and make them feel instantly comfortable, a skill that has translated into my volunteer experiences as an Orientation Leader and is now being used in my current position as a customer service representative with the Royal Bank of Canada.

I worked part time at one of the on campus coffee shops, serving both students and faculty from the Queen's Community. It was a great opportunity to get to meet and interact with students from all the various sects of the University, both as collegues and customers. It also taught me how to stay calm under the pressure of crazy lunch rushes!
