I am pleased to write a strong recommendation for Megan Moore. I served as Megan’s M.A. thesis advisor the Department of Anthropology at Georgia State University, where she successfully completed her degree in 2009. In the classes she took with me, in her comprehensive exams, and in her practicum M.A. paper, she consistently demonstrated her advanced skills in ethnographic research, writing, and oral presentation. It was enjoyable to read her written work, in particular, as her writing is fluid, descriptive, organized, and clear. For her M.A. practicum, she held an internship at the Center for Trauma and Torture Survivors (CTTS) with the Dekalb County Board of Health in Decatur, Georgia. She detailed her daily activities with this center in extremely detailed fieldnotes, which she synthesized into an outstanding paper. She demonstrated her cultural sensitivity and compassion in her work with CTTS, and in her final paper, she was able to identify several key health and job-related concerns for asylees and refugees who were clients of CTTS from Iraq, Bhutan, Somalia, Myanmar, and many other nations. In addition to her academic training in applied anthropology, which includes a course I teach in medical anthropology as well as her independent research for her practicum, Megan has extensive work and volunteer experience in health-related fields, most recently in working with aging and elderly populations. She is a caring person with a good sense of humor who gets long very well with other students and with professors. Megan has gone on to complete her Master's in Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information about Megan.
