My responsibilities in various roles ranging from managing litigated claims, preparing annual Appropriation Bills and supporting their passage through Parliament, briefing and collaboration with stakeholders (including the Office of Parliamentary Counsel and the Australian Government Solicitor), providing general advice on appropriation matters, managing amendments to the Appropriation Acts, drafting legislative instruments and explanatory statements. This has exposed me to a variety of administrative and constitutional legal issues. For example, my team assisted the Department in their response to a High Court challenge to advance appropriations to a Commonwealth entity for expenditure associated with the Australian Marriage Law Survey.
