Biomedical Clinical Engineering Partnership

A clinical immersion experience paired with device design and development training. Spent 4-12 hours a day shadowing and engaging with hospital staff in the OR, ICU, ED, and L&D. Observed and identified needs, problems, and inefficiencies with current medical devices. Applied problem-solving skills to propose detailed solutions to these identified needs. Collaborated with a team member to follow the engineering design process to design and prototype a Lumbar Puncture Assistance Device System. Presented project to staff at Tenet Health, Cal Poly, and Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). As a junior ski instructor, I played a major part in the responsibility and instruction of my group of 10 kids. I wanted to spread my passion for skiing to kids through inspiration, hands on learning, and example. By doing so I not only helped my students achieve major breakthroughs, but I developed close relationships with the lead instructor and my group. I gained skills of leadership, managing parental concerns, and collaborating with adults. Having hands on experience with defense cases and local legislation increased my knowledge of our government, my interest in politics, and the day-to day actions of specific jobs. I was enlightened on immigration issues, its position in the bureaucracy, and the system that lawyers have to fight against. By getting exposed to current cases, I became immersed in the struggle and legal hurdles that immigrants face.
