Corps Member 2011
-
May 2011 - Jun 2013
I am proud to be one of less than 10% of over 50,000 applicants that was selected to be a Teach for America Corps Member in the Mississippi Delta in the year of 2011. From May-July I took part in a rigorous teacher-training program where my fellow corps members and I worked around the clock to learn effective teaching strategies to reach impoverished students in Delta communities. My summer training took place at Greenville Weston High School in Greenville, MS where I taught entering-10th grade summer school students literature with a co-teacher. I also attended classes and workshops with the Teach for America organization at Delta State University. I took and passed the general and literature specific Praxis teaching exams to receive my Mississippi teaching certificate. After completing my training I was placed at Leflore County High School where I exceeded my 2-year commitment by teaching literature for a total of 3 years.
