Career/Transition Counselor
-
Oct 2015 - Present
I work in the College and Career Readiness Department helping students achieve their goal of obtaining their adult high school diploma or high school equivalency. I work with every student throughout their time with us, from orientation to graduation. I coordinate two programs, Basic Skills Plus and Wayne Community College Connect, that allow students to begin their college education tuition free while they are registered in our department. One of my main goals is to transition our students into Wayne Community College once they have successfully obtained their adult high school diploma or high school equivalency, so that they can attain higher education that will allow them to find their desired jobs. I teach classes that help instill soft skills and assistance with college transition. Along with transitioning to college or career, I am the counselor for all of our students, helping them with various issues ranging from test anxiety to finding housing to coping with interpersonal problems.
