Jan 2021 - Present
Currently working in the Thatcher research group developing nonlipogenic ABCA1 inducers. Advancing organic synthesis techniques and learning medicinal chemistry to rationally design new compounds. Through the interdisciplinary atmosphere of our group, I’ve been exposed to more of the biology side of drug discovery and even learning new skills such as biochemical assay development.

Graduate Teaching Assistant
-
Aug 2020 - May 2022
For two years, I taught organic chemistry semester I and II lab courses. I started teaching online over zoom during the pandemic and eventually transitioned back to in-person teaching. Adapting to different learning styles as well as engaging twenty-five students at a time led me to a deep understanding of topics.

Working under the supervision of Dr. Carolyn Weinreb, a four step synthesis of 1-ethynyladamantane has been developed. This will be used as a model system for the synthesis of 1,3,5,7-tetraethylnyladamantane. The first step in the synthesis of tetrasubstituted molecule began during my last year at Saint Anselm College. Through this experience I advanced my laboratory techniques as well as locating and performing new procedures.

By working with the Medicinal Chemistry team at Alkermes I was exposed to advanced organic synthesis reactions as well as aspects of the drug design process. Daily use of Chem Draw and Perkin Elmer Electronic Lab Notebook has helped evolve my skills with each tool to a new level.
