      Examined the hemoglobin structure of the Lake Titicaca Frog (Telmatobius culeus) to gain better understanding into how the species is able to live completely underwater and at higher altitudes. Sequences of the alpha-globin DNA were amplified through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to yield millions of copies of identical DNA sequence. Short, single-stranded fragments of DNA called primers were utilized as a starting point for DNA replication. Products had a similar number of base pairs to their cousin Xenopus species indicating no significant difference was found between DNA base pairs of Telmatobius culeus and Xenopus species, however future research with beta-globin structure was expected to be analyzed as well.
