I volunteered at an event during Social Science Week which took place to help gain an insight into what the general public thought of human rights. I was responsible for being the first point of contact for guests, during the evening I took notes of people's opinions and responses and also acted to facilitate conversation. The lecturer who organised the event is keen to make this into a larger project and I am keen to be part of the process. I gained an insight in family law when attending a pro-bono clinic for domestic violence victims. I was selected after an application process to attend a three-day trip with my University which included attending the Royal Courts of Justice, a day in Freshfields learning what it is like to work at a Magic Circle firm, and also heard passionate talks from Amnesty International, Reprieve, and a barrister from Doughty Street Chambers increasing my interest on Human Rights. During my time here I offered support to peers assisting with paperwork, filing and answering phone calls. I was given the opportunity to sit in on meetings with District judges and a Bankruptcy Hearing. These aspects of the work developed my professionalism communication and teamwork skills, which then went on to help me at later jobs.
