Through fellowships, I have gained experience and insight into the field of child advocacy by working in organizations who make a real difference in the lives of children. Throughout the fellowship, I have got to learn from recognized experts in a paid internship at the Maryland Center on Economic Policy. In addition to the required coursework and internship,I have been coached and mentored, preparing me to enter a career in children's advocacy. I tracked the timeline of over 80 pieces of legislation to ensure that testimony was submitted on time and to keep up with the status of the bills throughout the legislative process. I also analyzed budgets and financial statements to assist in policy recommendations. Along with recommendations I also wrote, drafted, and edited testimony to be read in the Maryland House of Delegates and the Senate. I got to collaborate with other nonprofit organizations to support legislation. I acted as the parliamentarian for all official judicial hearings, which required me to file a notice of hearing, a notice of penalties, and factual memoranda, among other things. In order to prepare the PHA and IFC Judicial Board to act as an impartial third party in proceedings, I conducted interviews, selected, and trained both boards. I was also in charge of organizing and carrying out National Hazing Prevention Week's week of programming. In addition, I was in charge of overseeing the internal programming of the chapter's standards chairs and running the training sessions for new member educators. Show less

I helped with leading discussions or review sessions for larger groups of students, helping them to engage with and apply the concepts they are learning. I helped provide feedback to students, and kept track of their progress throughout the semester. Finally I helped managed classroom logistics, such as setting up equipment, taking attendance, or distributing handouts. Show less
