Mercado Global is a Brooklyn-based accessory brand and non-profit that builds international market access for rural indigenous Guatemalan women. The organization provides women in extreme poverty with trainings in technical skills, financial management and nutrition, while also microfinancing equipment like looms and sewing machines so participants could apply skills to become entrepreneurs in their own communities. With limited resources, I built the product design program; brand positioning; photography and visual storytelling direction; artisan skill capacity; and safer labor conditions. I hired and managed the creative team. I designed the color, textiles, silhouettes and line plans for 15 collections, from Fall '16 to Fall '20. Notable Accounts Acquired: Reformation, Pamela Love, Nordstrom, Holt Renfrew, Merci Paris, Zimmerman, Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, Everything But Water, Stitch Fix, Free People, Of a Kind, Planet Blue, Ritz Carlton, KSL Resorts, TOAST 2019 - Expanded product exclusive offerings, designing unique fabrications and bodies to build business at diverse volume retailers 2018 - Created icons collection to maximize staff time and efforts to meet unique demands of boutique and large retailer - Delivered brand repositioning in-house, including first style guide, brand voice and key messages - Launched Home Collection - Guided Graphic Designer in implementation of new website without budget or additional hires. 2017 - Transformed product aesthetic - Restructured team to focus on competitive product positioning and advancing artisans' technical skills 2016 - Based in Guatemala, I taught patternmaking, sewing and handbag construction to overhaul product quality - Built first R&D systems, tech packs and weaving drafts, improving efficiency and QC - Decreased MSRP by 35.7% while increasing margin through fabric design and product engineering.
