I had the privilege of working with michelle (mitch) at Mackenzie health. we worked in the palliative care unit. she is everything mr. young said in his comment. when I came on duty and saw that michelle was working with me, I felt no matter how emotionally draining the day was going to be we would get through it and give the best of the best care to our patients and especially the families. (we do get attached to our patients). in palliative care the families need more loving care, support and reassurances. the patient has already accepted what is coming and have adapted the strength to go through with it. sometimes its amazing how they can but on a front for their loved ones. the families however have difficulty. they have so many questions, and concerns, blame, ambiguity, turmoil, stressed out hopeless, you name all the emotional feelings on earth and they have them. michelle has the gift to be able to help them understand what is happening and in no where are they to blame. she has the gift to counsel i.e. quarreling siblings and bring peace between them, because they will need each other after the parent passes, and also the parents need to have the comfort of knowing the children are getting along. on our evening shift, once a week she would gather several patients ( who consented) to have a social gathering in our Quiet Room. she would order food from outside i.e. Chinese, kfc. what ever they decided. it was so rewarding. I could write a book on her talents. I am retired now and I sure as hell miss her, she was my rock and my backup. she will be yours also.
