As an Undergraduate Fellow for the College New Curriculum, I guide cohorts of first-year students through a year-long process of developing, drafting, and presenting a research grant proposal. Proposals are centered around the cohort's "Engagement" classes, aimed at the aesthetics, empiricism, and ethics of critical and intellectual thinking. The Weldon Cooper Center serves leaders across the Commonwealth and beyond by combining decades of knowledge about government, communities, and the people of Virginia with contemporary and advanced research, analytical expertise, and focused training for high performance. The Center brings together expertise in economic, demographic, and survey research, and leadership development. The Cooper Center’s internships were focused in the Sorensen Institute, which has established itself as a force for restoring public confidence in our political system. Sorensen’s mission promotes three central themes: ethics in public service, the power of bipartisan cooperation, and a concentrated study of public policy issues. As an intern at the Sorensen Institute, I worked in an 8-person cohort to analyze key issues affecting the Commonwealth in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the leadership challenges involved. We engaged with key Commonwealth policy makers, developed policy analysis and drafting skills, and made formal policy recommendations that will be shared with Virginia leaders. Show less

The Senate Page Leadership Program is a nine-week residential program in Richmond, VA with components centered on developing future leaders. Students who receive admission to the program carry on the tradition of page service in the legislature while fulfilling requirements in a professional development track comprised of speakers, site visits and classroom-like instruction. The mission of the program is to facilitate a structured environment in which young Virginians embrace responsibility and accountability, develop professional characteristics through strict standards of conduct and engage in the legislative process through work, observation and discussion.
