  I worked as an assistant teacher teaching English as a Foreign Language to primary school children in Navaluenga, Spain. During the two months of teaching English, I lived with a host family. With the host family, I solely spoke in Spanish and improved my speaking and understanding skills. Furthermore, I tutored their children (9 and 13) in Science, Social Studies and Grammar in English.   I interned for five weeks abroad in La Paz, Bolivia. During my internship, I shadowed doctors and health care professionals for four hours, five days a week. I interned at various pediatric hospitals and clinics in La Paz and El Alto. The doctors would share their diagnoses with us. We helped the doctors with handing them materials, helping the patients, and aiding the nurses. I took Spanish classes at the same time. During our internship, each week, the head doctor at the local pediatric hospital would give us lectures about the medical problems bin Bolivia and about their health care system. I saw how the health care system of Bolivia worked first hand and learned about the current plans that were being implemented to stop the medical problems in the area. I shadowed in the Neonatal department, Labor and Delivery unit, Pediatric Surgery department, Gynecology unit, and the Burn unit. Show less
