Bio
Sophie Langton
I was lucky enough to be paired with Maya as my mentor through Access VFX. As an incoming graduate back in June I was keen to start my job hunt and in need of guidance. Maya has been so unbelievably helpful during the process which has resulted in multiple job offers and accepting my first VFX job at the beginning of this month. I am so grateful to have been paired with such a patient, kindhearted and supportive mentor and really can’t thank her enough. Maya really exceeded my expectations of any mentor and sincerely has my heartfelt recommendation.

[Employment ended due to redundancy.] As the only in house Recruiter, I oversee the end to end recruitment of every role. This is at all levels of experience of a specialism, within our medium-sized post production studio which specialises in making visual effects, primarily for commercials. As Electric’s first Recruiter, I am building new systems to form a recruitment pipeline based on the existing workaround. To track talent long term, I source, screen and meet with a variety of people to add to a candidate pipeline for both in house and freelance roles for the future. This proactive search will save Electric time and money when a new role is signed off to go live. I can help the candidates shape their skillsets to be more role-ready specifically for our studio’s requirements. For entry level talent sourcing, I am building an Outreach program for the year ahead to work with educational institutes and attend industry specific festivals. I can engage with new talent in this way and add them to a candidate pipeline.

Bookings & Talent Coordinator

May 2019 - Dec 2019
I managed the schedules for our post production team, booking their time through Farmer’s Wife. I met weekly with our EP and Creative Director to make the best choices for creative allocations. I liaised with post production studios to book colour grade and sound mix sessions for our Singapore, San Francisco and London offices. As the first at person within a Talent role at ATP, I built a centralised database of contacts, in line with GDPR and with the assistance of our HR advisor. I organised meetings with new suppliers for post production work and with new talent to discuss collaboration possibilities and opportunities. I pride myself on extending talent searches beyond LinkedIn and agencies in order create a diverse talent pool.

I built a talent pool of the best candidates for entry level positions by planning and leading The Mill’s Outreach Program. I collaborated with heads of department to formulate the best strategy for the quarter ahead. I was an active member of Access:VFX - an industry-led, non-profit organisation, promoting diversity and inclusion in the VFX industry - where I assisted during external events such as careers fairs and attended monthly meetings to help diversify The Mill’s talent pool.

Mar 2013 - Sep 2014
Being fortunate enough to join the company prior to store opening, I was able to take part in the NSO for Apple Store Trinity Leeds. Taking part in the store construction, I gained many skills from members of the Visual Merchandising teams from other retail stores located in various part of the world who had come to aid us during NSO. As a current member of the VM team in Trinity Leeds, I assist with the setting up prior to Product Launches. I have taken part in numerous Accessory Resets and in the changes of Window Displays, Graphic Panels and Demo Products. I work closely with the BOH team and our PO Specialist in the ordering and stock management of Visual Elements. My duties also include adhering to the company's VM guidelines for maintaining Demo Products and Accessory displays. Issues are communicated to management and recorded upon our in-house systems. As a Specialist, my role is to 'passionately engage customers' and demonstrate Apple's technology in order to enable them to see how 'our products can enrich their lives'. In order to help customers get the most from their products, we offer free Workshops in store which I myself have delivered on occasions to groups of adults 4-8. Similarly I have also taken part in Summer Camp 2013 where a more hands-on Workshop is delivered to children between the ages of 8-12.

Work Shadow Day (ITV & Citv)
-
Oct 2012 - Oct 2012
On Tuesday 23rd October 2012, I spent the day at Granada Studios in Manchester on a Work Shadow Placement which involved a morning with the production team at Citv and an afternoon at ITV's ThreeSixty Media department. Animator, Frank Mansfield talked me through the types of work produced at Citv, showed me examples of work created by himself and the team that have previously been broadcasted and discussed the production of online content. Throughout the morning, I was able to ask - as well as have answered - many animation production questions I had for the team. In the afternoon, I Work Shadowed Tanvir Hanif who leads the graphics and post production team at ITV. He showed me many examples of the work him team produce, explained the roles a production team and demonstrated many post production techniques. I was also set a brief during my visit which required the production of new skit concepts for ITV's You've Been Framed! through the creation of storyboards. A selection of my concepts are currently in the process of being pitched for selection. The visit to Granada Studios was an invaluable experience, having been able to witness first-hand the daily running of a television studio and how production teams within them organise and structure their workload, as well as seeing the level of quality of the work that is being produced.
