The position included supervising the microbiology, biochemistry and microscopy labs; designing and conducting experiments; data analysis, studying and guiding new equipment and techniques; mentoring students; scientific writing (grants, manuscripts for scientific journals, books and press releases). I was involved in setting up the lab from the start and guided students throughout their studies. I set up the lab’s biological inventory and guided technologies of protein purification, microfluidics, fluorescent microscopy, cryopreservation, chip design and construction. I led and contributed to projects including antifreeze proteins for cryopreservation in biotechnology and food industries; biophysics of ice-binding proteins, ice physics, cell vitrification, directional freezing, meat oxidation, and food printing.
