    • Campaigns and Policy Assistant (Fixed Term)
      • Jan 2023 - Mar 2023

I had my initial contract extended in order to support the policy and research team as a policy assistant. This was in addition to my public affairs functions. In this role I supported our policy development by conducting both political and scientific research on issues such as planning & housing and land use & farming policy. I continued to attend meetings with MPs and also supported our Head of Policy to host the first ever APPG for Brownfield First, where I engaged with MPs interested in the policy area. During this post I supported the development of a UCL written paper on land use and net zero technologies, and also trained in GIS to help create an interactive map of UK green spaces. Show less

    • External Affairs Assistant (Fixed Term)
      • Sep 2022 - Dec 2022

I joined CPRE on a 4 month fixed term contract with the primary focus being to organise 3 key parliamentary events as part of our main campaigns, as well as supporting our public affairs lead in her work to advocate for our main policy areas. This position included extensive research and the preparation of briefings on MPs and policy/legislation as well as meeting with them and other NGO stakeholders in the industry. In order to carry out these tasks, I used tools like DODS monitoring and Hansard files as well as other political news sources to maintain an understanding of the industry landscape. Beyond this I would also support our media division, responding to members of the public on policy and planning casework and social media outlets. Show less

Whilst working with CPRE, I took annual leave in order to conduct a week’s work experience in the office of an MP I met at one of our networking events. I supported various functions in her office: - Writing press releases, including on police funding, access to nature and brownfield policy. - Shadowing her and other office staff in meetings including with the local police inspector and county councillors. - Writing social media posts and conducting research of local and national papers to support the communication strategy for that week and the remainder of February. - Worked with a constituency office caseworker to learn how to respond to policy casework.
