I have known Mr. Maxwell Cury for more than 13 years, he has started as a young engineer in EPE- Brazilian Power Authority with a long trajectory in his life involved in Power Transmission Planning, participating in the main planning studies of the Brazilian Interconnected System. Later, in recognition of his leadership and expertise he was nominated a Team Leader - Technical Consultant, responsible for the Renewables Integration studies. Maxwell Cury has shown outstanding analytical skills, and exceptional knowledge on electric power transmission systems with special reference to technology and methods in HVAC and HVDC systems. Besides being a power system studies expert, he has demonstrated great knowledge in regulatory issues and in more recent years, Mr. Cury has been dealing with important duties in the Brazilian Electric Sector where he has been acting as distinguished technical leader. I have had the opportunity to work with Maxwell through a partnership between the Brazilian National Operator and the Planning Company since 2017. He is a professional with great technical skills and extensive knowledge in power systems. His leadership skills, commitment, communication, and cooperation entitle him to fill any management position in the Electricity industry. Therefore, here are my sincere recommendation and admiration for the work carried out by him for the Transmission Expansion Planning of the Brazilian Electric System.

Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE) conducts studies and research in the Brazilian energy sector subsidizing The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) in its planning and public policies and is responsible for the whole energy planning in Brazil. I served as the company’s primary representative on matters related to the transmission system in the Southeast and Midwest areas and contribute to the development and review of the annual strategic plan for the transmission planning department. Lead a technical team of 7 engineers and facilitate the transmission planning activities for transmission systems in the Southeast and Midwest of Brazil - an area that includes 7 states plus the Federal District and corresponds to 2.3 million km2 (approximately three times the area of Texas), with a total population of 56 million, 24 million of consumers and annual energy consumption of 142 TWh. Successfully guide and oversee the team’s execution of activities by defining, prioritizing and delegating tasks; analyzing diagnostics of the transmission systems; proposing necessary adjustments and monitoring schedules. Collaborate regularly/daily with the MME, Independent System Operator of the Brazilian Electric System (Brazilian TSO/ISO), the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency and energy transmission, and distribution companies.US$ 2.62 billion in Power TransmissionUS$ 40 million in Energy Distribution3258 miles of Power Transmission Lines (345 kV and 500 kV)64 miles of Power Distribution Lines (138 kV)11400 MVA in Substation Transformation Power Show less
