As one of the early startup employees I contributed to several successful development milestones, funding, and company growth. I provided an impact in multiple roles developing a range of genomic and biochemistry instruments and techniques. In this role I mastered agile product development and rapid prototyping, while also learning optical imaging design, Solidworks, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing, using Python for data analysis, image processing, and bioinformatics. - Developed plasmonic protein binding sensor and fluorescent microscopy instrument - Implemented instrument control of fluidic, mechanical and electro-optical components - Performed fluidics analysis and optimization through image analysis and statistical process control - Used Python programming for data analysis, image processing, and bioinformatic task solving. Developed first data analysis UI/UX pipeline - Owned Design for Cost project that resulted in low-cost (>70% COGS reduction) liquid handling biochemical assay and sequencer instruments - Set up a small-volume production line, inventory tracking systems, and managed suppliers for optomechanical components - Performed nanofabrication of biochemical substrates for in-situ DNA amplification and fluorescence enhancement - Used Luerical simulations, Solidworks design, GD&T, and Zemax ray tracing Show less

Relocated back to California and joined former lab on the new role. I was able to successfully start a new project that involved collaboration of UCSD Medical School and School of Engineering to explore and develop novel bioimaging methods. I supervised the project by writing research plans, doing most of experimental work, and setting up meetings to ensure meeting critical deadlines. The project won grant funding (U.S. BRAIN Initiative grant) and I transferred it to one of the graduate students. This novel technique resulted in his PhD thesis and several journal publications. Additionally, as a facility manager I was able to set up customer base tracking system, ensured equipment operation by collaborating with field service engineers, and procured new equipment to meet customer needs. - Researcher in brain imaging, plasmonic biosensors, and nanophotonics - Manager of the UCSD CalIT2 Chipscale Photonics Testbed Facility Show less
