It is my pleasure to write this recommendation in support of Max Sano. I first met Max when he became a freshman at our school. However, I got to know him very well in the Fall of 2015 when he was a student in my Regents Chemistry class. Max soon became one of my top students during his sophomore year. Although the Regents Chemistry class is one of the most challenging of the 10th grade year, Max excelled. Max was extremely inquisitive, and he always asked very thoughtful questions in my class. He participated fully every day, and he never failed to complete all of his assignments. In addition, Max was helpful to his peers, and he always participated in such a way as to enhance the learning of the entire class. He is an excellent collaborator and partner on both laboratory activities and larger projects. In addition to his academic work, Max found the time to be the leader for our school’s HIV-AIDS Action League. His leadership of this club brought about amazing assemblies around World AIDS Day, including workshops led by him and the other club members. This became one of the most important assemblies at our school, and I was proud to be the advisor for such a hard-working, dedicated team of students. Through Max’s leadership, he has left a legacy of awareness around issues that most teenagers and adults are reluctant to talk about. Max's leadership and activism brought about positive change in our school community. During his junior year, Max delivered an oral presentation on his English research project to an audience consisting of a teacher and one member of the community. I was the teacher for this incredible presentation about Bhutan and its environmental sustainability. It was inspiring, well articulated and researched, as well as incredibly thoughtful. It was one of the best oral presentations I have heard since I’ve been a part of the Lab High School community. I asked Max to please sign up for my AP Environmental Science course immediately. He was an amazing addition to the class, always collaborating effectively, thinking flexibly, and adding incredible insight to our class discussions. I will never forget his contributions. Max is disciplined and mature in his approach to any task he sets out to accomplish and is exceptionally hard-working and committed to both his own growth and the betterment of his community. Max is one of those rare young adults who demonstrates good citizenship and an uncommon willingness to help out whenever needed. Max is still incredibly curious and upbeat, and I always look forward to his updates on what he's currently working on in his post-high school life. It is my opinion that Max Sano shows exceptional dedication, curiosity, and a commitment to the environment and social causes not often seen in others his age. I enthusiastically support Max Sano in all of his endeavors. If you have any questions regarding Max Sano, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Susan Price Science Teacher NYC Lab Hi
