Max Phelps is a ray of sunshine! I began my career in publishing when Max hired me right out of college in 2003. His passion and enthusiam are the reasons I fell in love with book publishing. Max is highly intellegent, hardworking, ethical, enthusastic, creative, open minded, positive and knowlegable. He is an amazing mentor and the skills I learned from him I have carried with me in every endeavor in my career. He is passionate about what he does and highly invested in cultivating the talent of the people around him. He is a wonderful teacher, an incomparable salesman, and a manager capable of creating a positive, fun, and inpsiring working environment. His knowlege of outdoor book publishing is second to none. He brings his capable, kind, friendly hand to every collaboration he is involved in. I cannot stress how highly I recommend Max for any employer. Working with Max has been one of the greatest privileges of my career--a career that would not have occured without the guidance and support of such a passionate proffesional of the highest possible caliber. I recommend Max without reservation. Any employer would be lucky to have him on their team.

Max was one of the finest managers that I ever had the pleasure of working with and he introduced me to the incredible world of bookselling. I owe him a huge debt for his belief in me and I tried to emulate his style when I was managing several stores. He is a great guy as well.
