Max Parish is one of a kind student leader who fully invests himself into all that he does. He oversee the Waltham Group Hunger and Homelessness Program where he advises hundreds of volunteers who participate in community collection drives as well as weekly visits to support the housing and food insecure. Max is passionate about actively providing direct service and partnership, but also working on a marco level. Max is someone who dreams big, is not afraid to take risks, and leads with both his head and heart. I have become a better professional having had the privilege to work with Max.

Max has an inspirational goal to help others, especially those in need. As a student leader at Brandeis University, he has devoted much of his time to educate college students and the community about homelessness. He effectively organizes community events and outreach programs, develops and implements assistance programs and promotes these activities to raise awareness. He is very driven. I have seen first hand how he has positively impacted the lives of many motivating them to take action and better their lives. Max will continue to be a compassionate leader in our society.

I worked on a state field program to defeat Question 2 on the 2016 November ballot to keep the MA's cap on charter schools. As a part of this effort, I recruited 150 + volunteers to participate in canvassing and phone banking programs. Additionally, I lobbied 4 School Committees and 2 City Councils to pass resolutions in support of the No On 2 effort. I also collaborated with the MTA, BTU, AFT, and NAACP to engage community support as a part of the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance (MEJA) and the Boston Education Justice Alliance (BEJA). As a member of the board of directors, I collaborate with the executive officers to help provide food and case management services to the shelter’s guests through volunteer programming. In addition, I participate in executive decisions relative to the operations of the Day Center, as well as take minutes at monthly meetings. I also advocate on the Day Center’s behalf to receive grants for various projects, including funding from the Jones Partnership Fund for the implementation of a health survey to be disseminated amongst those who frequent the shelter Show less

As a member of the University's Student Conduct Board I executed social campaigns against sexual violence on the Brandeis University campus by presenting bystander education trainings to other clubs and campus-affiliated organizations. In addition, I presided over case hearings concerning violations of the Brandeis University Rights and Responsibilities section of the student handbook As a member of the University's Student Conduct Board I executed social campaigns against sexual violence on the Brandeis University campus by presenting bystander education trainings to other clubs and campus-affiliated organizations. I work on a team of four co-coordinators and collaborate with the Brandeis University dining provider to distribute 20 pounds of food per week to the Community Day Center of Waltham, a day shelter for those who experience homelessness and food insecurity. As a part of our programming, I coordinate a volunteer case management program at the Day Center, requiring that I interview and train student volunteers to refer the guests of the shelter to local resources such as public housing and health care providers. In addition, I organize community-wide food and clothing drives each semester to benefit Boston’s Health Care for the Homeless Program, Cradles to Crayons, and the Community Day Center of Waltham. I also educate students about homelessness and food insecurity through weekly discussions amongst volunteers Show less

As an intern for Tom Stanley's Campaign for Mayor, I processed canvassing data into Votebuilder and helped identify likely supporters and volunteers. During GOTV weekend I helped to recruit approximately 2000 supporters and on election day, I learned how to use turnout data from polling locations to project electoral outcomes using Votebuilder and Excel. I also organized an information session featuring the candidate at Brandeis University to recruit supporters and volunteers. In addition, I contributed to canvassing and phone banking efforts throughout the campaign. Show less

As a legislative intern I helped campaign to pass Bill H.529, state legislation increasing funding for the Massachusetts Emergency Assistance Program (EAEDC) through engaging organizations that address homelessness and elderly affairs and partnering to collect testimony and postcards addressed to legislators advocating for the bill. In addition, I created a database of organizations in Massachusetts that address homelessness and at-risk populations that will be helpful for this campaign as well as for ones in the future. I also helped to solicit votes with 11 other volunteers as a part of a successful campaign to raise $50,000 in one evening for the Bed for Every Child program. Show less
