I hired Max as a contractor to conduct User Research here at Microsoft. I was so impressed with his work that we quickly converted him into a full time employee. Max has a knack for breaking down problems into testable chunks and has a creativity for devising experiments to better understand users. His drive and determination have served him well and he has an exciting career ahead of him. I recommend him highly.

Staff UX Research Manager, Accelerating Cross-Product Experiences
-
Oct 2018 - Apr 2023
The team is focused on cross-product experiences, uniquely both for Google's mobile consumer apps & developer tools. The mobile consumer side is further split into two sub-teams called iOS@Google and Android@Google where each team considers the unique opportunities of each platform (e.g. What value can Google build using the Siri Shortcuts/App Intents framework on iOS?, What value can Google apps take advantage of with the robust capabilities for widgets on Android?). We look holistically at how users use their phone and develop experiences that are beyond the horizon of individual product teams within Google. We also have a sub-team that takes this same approach to our internal tools within Google to increase developer productivity and satisfaction. Show less

Senior UX Researcher, Social
-
Jul 2014 - Apr 2016
Led research on spinning off a number of sub-experiences that were once bundled with Google+ including Google Contacts, Google My Business (Google Business Profiles), and Google Photos. This research program involved understanding the current mental models of existing Google+ users and transitioning their understanding of these services into new ones as well as identifying new value for those & new users to take advantage of. Also led research in a new product incubator that experimented with new digital social experiences. The furthest developed included Spaces for small group collaboration & sharing as well as Sparks which generated ice breakers and social activities for 1:1 relationships & groups. The program included both foundational research on people's unmet social needs as well as iterative research through weekly RITE studies & bi-weekly diary studies. Insights gained through the process informed numerous larger product efforts. Show less
