The main focus of my PhD studies was to develop and investigate plant derived bioactive substances for the treatment of endocrine diseases and disorders. Five years of clinical research with Aarhus University has provided me with specialist experience in devising, monitoring and executing clinical trials. Among the notable projects are a three month randomised control trial (RCT), placebo controlled study on the effects of daily intake of highly bioavailable red clover isoflavones on menopausal symptoms and estrogen deficient diseases in 60 menopausal women; a cross-over study on the effects of processing and food matrices on the bioavailability of isoflavones in 15 healthy young women and a 1 year placebo-controlled RCT, elucidating the effects of daily isoflavone and micronutrient supplementation on bone turnover in 78 post-menopausal women with osteopenia. I am GCP-trained and have consistently submitted successful clinical research applications approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Northern and Central Denmark Regions, as well as secured funding for a number of projects (including the above mentioned). I have also worked in collaboration with private companies, such as Herrens Mark ApS and Natur Dorgeriet A/S among others. Through-out my research I have worked closely with participants, researchers, private companies, medical professionals and regulatory bodies within clinical and business settings. I have publications in various scientific journals and have present my work orally international and domestic events such the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research congress, Osteoporosis Foundation, European Food Venture Forum and Danish Endocrinology Society meeting.
