  I tutor a number of students between the ages of 15 and 18, for chemistry, physics and maths. The work I do with each student varies but usually consists of consolidating their classroom work, exam preparation or extension classes that go beyond the syllabus.   A 10-week research project investigating Singlet Fission in the Thom Group. Singlet Fission is of particular use with regard to solar cells as in theory this can double their efficiency (surpassing the Shockley-Queisser limit). The first part of the project was spent learning to use Q-Chem and running calculations on anthracene derivatives, to explore how their varying structures influenced the singlet-triplet energy gap, an important consideration in finding materials suitable for singlet fission. From this came the desire for a model that would predict the magnitude of singlet-triplet gaps whilst reducing the computational costs. A model was developed for simple atomic systems, providing a basis on which to build on for scaling up to molecules. Show less

  Working for the Sutton Trust Chemistry Summer School, ran at the University of Cambridge.
