Currently, I am working at the department of Hematology and workgroup Hemostasis at the Erasmus MC. The main projects of my PhD thesis are focused on the role of platelets in hematological disorders. We primarily employ cell-biological techniques, such as confocal microscopy, super-resolution microscopy and flow cytometry. Working together with both clinicians and basic scientists, my PhD project has both fundamental and clinical aspects. Comparison of Factor H & FHL-1 in Age-Related Macular Degeneration - Master Internship
-
Nov 2015 - May 2016
Performing research in an international setting, further developing myself as a researcher. Learning more about techniques (immunohistochemistry of eye tissue, ELISA, Western Blot, SDS-PAGE) but also more about reporting results (i.e. presentations or dissertations) and writing a paper to publish generated results. Due to the international setting, I obtained better insight in funding and (inter)national collaboration between labs and industry. [Grade: 8.5 out of 10] Performing research in an international setting, further developing myself as a researcher. Role of TRPC6, heparanase and syndecans in experimental kidney disease - Master Internship
-
Nov 2014 - Jun 2015
The next step in learning to perform research: devising experiments, effective planning and learning new techniques (cell culture, RT-qPCR, and immunohistochemistry of kidney tissue). Also learning how to be critical with results, writing a large(r) dissertation and presenting results. Isolation of transmembrane proteins using polymers and molecular cloning of transporter proteins
-
Nov 2013 - Feb 2014
First experience in research: Bachelor internship over 2-3 months, learning to write a thesis, report findings and keeping track of results. Techniques included: cloning work to express transporter proteins, but also learning to use an experimental method for protein isolation. I also measured the quality of these protein isolation/purification steps using gel electrophoresis (PAGE) and Western Blotting.
