Thoughtful, creative and great energy - those are the traits I think of when asked about Maureen. I had the pleasure of working with Maureen over several years, as I was providing consulting services to a coalition that she led. It was always a pleasure working with Maureen because she cuts through what isn't important to advocate for and implement what is, and she is also just so terrifically personable.

Not many people are lucky enough to get a supervisor at their first job who becomes an invaluable mentor and ally, but I was when I worked for Maureen. I reported directly to Maureen for four years at Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina where we both served on the External Relations Team. As a recent college graduate who was new to the nonprofit world, Maureen was integral in helping build my capacity and understanding of nonprofit communications. With a scientific background and a creative eye, Maureen would take every aspect of a project into consideration to see where we could make improvements while spending less money to move the needle on our cause effectively and efficiently. Maureen was open and transparent with me and my colleagues, so I always felt comfortable opening up to her about any challenges or concerns I had at work. She encouraged me to think outside of the box and supported me when plans didn’t go as we expected. Most importantly, I always felt encouraged and appreciated under Maureen’s supervision. She also brought a fun spirit to the office by decorating the office during the holidays with a homemade pinwheel-themed wreath or kicking off department meetings with a fun activity like making scented sugar scrub. I wouldn’t be where and who I am today without her. She is an invaluable change-maker in North Carolina and any organization would be lucky to have her on the team!
