As the Director of Horticulture, I am responsible for the care and maintenance of over 200 acres of formal gardens, allees, and woodlands. I report directly to the President/CEO but work closely with board members and committees. I am responsible for the development and management of an over $800,000 budget. I supervise a staff comprised of full and part time employees as well as interns and volunteers. During my tenure at Old Westbury Gardens I have been involved in key projects including: restorations of the Beech Allee, Hemlock Hedge, and north plantings of Westbury House. I worked closely with an Heritage Landscapes to produce a Cultural Landscape Report and have begun carrying out many of the recommendations made within the report. I contracted Bartlett Tree Experts and worked closely with them to complete a full tree inventory for the property. I have helped to build an outstanding internship program, which hosts students in Horticulture and related fields from all over the world. I work closely with committees on fund raising events. I am a contributor to local newspaper and horticultural newsletters and a frequent lecturer at garden clubs throughout Long Island. Show less
