Mat is easily one of the most talented people that I've had the benefit of working with in my career. Intelligent, inspired, and highly organized, Mat brought a level of sophistication to his team that had not previously existed anywhere in the company. I was particularly impressed with Mat's depth of knowledge in Python, and his ability to use it to create advanced tools to both test and analyze our Text to Speech (TTS) technology. Mat's skill goes well beyond the testing arena; Mat's adept domain knowledge, strong business sense and communication skills made him one of the strongest planners/organizers in the group. By balancing customer needs with our technology's capabilities, he effectively prioritized our product's TTS and Speech Recognition road map to meet both engineering and business goals into the foreseeable future. He always had the data to back it all up and in a context tailored to each stakeholder. Even while accomplishing so much, Mat still made time to mentor and coach his team members, and I credit him with helping a number of us to add Python to our tool belts. He was also a fore-runner in our department in adopting Agile practices with extreme effectiveness. I once called Mat our departments' Most Valuable Player during our peer reviews. I would work with him again without hesitation.

Mat is one of the most professional and insightful software testers I have had the privilege of working with. He consistently impressed me with his work ethic, attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills. A critical and insightful thinker with solid judgment, he questioned and challenged ideas, proving himself a trusted sounding board for a variety of colleagues (management, testers, programmers, product development). The work Mat did to plan and organize speech-related testing efforts was a major undertaking that required a great deal of thought, research, and effort. He searched for the most effective, efficient, and productive courses of action in different situations, and worked to understand less obvious implications. His communication and materials were impeccably organized and presented, and were often key in making informed business decisions about product roadmaps and releases by product stakeholders. He made considerable contributions to the iLane product during the time I worked with him. Mat was a friendly, team-focused, and results-driven individual. He thrived in growing himself, and in fostering team and company success. I hold Mat in the highest regard, and appreciate having had the opportunity to work with and learn from him.
