I'm back in the ad agency world to help the fine folks at Ray continue to build a different kind of agency. Creating award winning work that moves the needle starts with putting the happiness and health of the team at the centre. A major focus of mine in this regard is collaborating with the team to build processes and new ways of communicating that not only ensure projects are on time and on budget, but most importantly that everyone's workload is equal parts fulfilling and manageable. In my day-to-day I help make awesome stuff with awesome people, including TV, video, radio, and all things digital.Read my fancy new bio at: https://lnkd.in/dTqVPGfH

    • Director of Marketing
      • Mar 2019 - Nov 2021

Zorbit's is an EdTech company that's making classrooms awesome through play based learning. As Director of Marketing I steered the development of an overarching brand strategy that matured the brand, unified messaging across all channels, and solidified our brand position.Day-to-day I oversaw the creation of all marketing and communications materials from ideation to execution. In doing so I built a new team, developed new processes, and fostered new ways to collaborate and solve problems.Part of my role was sitting on the management team where I helped guide day-to-day operations, big-picture planning, and building a company culture that puts people first.

    • Agency Producer & Consultant
      • Nov 2016 - Feb 2019

I've made a career of solving communication problems by blending the creative with the pragmatic and then bringing things to life by attaching the right combination of talent, leadership, and organization. As a freelancer, I applied this process to content and video production as an end to end creative producer and director. I collaborated with various clients and ad agencies as the conductor of a disparate orchestra - consulting on projects at the strategic and creative stages, then led the planning, production, edits and delivery.

    • Father of the Year - A Year Away From The Hamster Wheel
      • Nov 2015 - Nov 2016

Disclaimer: “Father of the Year” moniker was bestowed to me by a milk-drunk 3-year-old.At the end of 2015 I set out to live the cliché of "a year away from the hamster wheel". Though the idea is romantic, what brought me to the decision was not. Fueled in equal parts by my high-achieving personality, a demanding industry, and a waning interest in my core role, I had reached a place of complete physical and mental exhaustion. I was at a crossroads - I needed to redesign my life, but I didn’t have space or energy to do it. So, after careful deliberation, I nervously pulled the ripcord on my parachute. The result was without a doubt the biggest growth and learning experience of my life. It provided me with the rare opportunity to spend time focusing on my kids and family, while also equipping me with super powers I apply in the workplace everyday:• I recalibrated my approach to work, and studied and practiced strategies for prioritization, productivity and balance. • I took care of myself. My biggest learning was that health is not just about taking care of your body with diet and exercise. Just as important is caring for the muscle between your ears. I studied and practiced meditation and mindfulness and applied them to improve focus, concentrate and productivity.• I reflected on my time as a manager and leader. In my agency role, I always struggled to find the time to be the leader I wanted to be. Time away allowed me to reflect and critique my approach and study ways to cultivate people and build strong teams. • I made time to chat with many people who were following paths I admired, dipped my toe into new projects and varied industries, and gained new experiences in entrepreneurship. All in all this experience re-energized me, armed me with a new perspective, and motivated me for new challenges. Turns out, taking a year off ain't half bad ;)
