I work with almost all departments within the company and look at ways to improve processes and strategies. As part of the senior management team I'm an integral part in strategy development and provide lots of insights into sales and marketing improvements. I developed our Business Intelligence (BI) program arming the sales rep with powerful data to boost sales and providing the exec team with insights to business strategy shifts. I helped our merchandise team streamline ordering and introduced the Open to Buy model to manage sales and inventory planning. During quarterly board meetings I present all sales updates and also provide lots of information to any investing partners in the due diligence process. I really enjoy the small company work life balance, actions are quickly taken and process can quickly be made. I recently move to Jacksonville Florida and work from home now which is a first for me but has been really productive and rewarding. The categories I managed had different seasonalities and inventory needs. One Category had a seasonal spring spike that is weather depended (sales will go from couple $100K/week to multiple million/week from one week to the next). Another department was more fashionable and had style changes throughout the year making EOL management very important. A lot of my business was import as well with over 120 lead time. To keep my inventory in check I would work on assortment rationalizations and improving the customer shopping experience through the products offered at the store level. This was my first management position. I would have 2 full time employees working for me and at times would have up to 4 people working for me as I trained them up to be functional.

As the Assistant Buyer I was working on a lot of tactical/executive work. I had to make sure the team kept running and was the glue for our team of 4. I often met with Vendors and participated in Contract Negotiations, dealt with Vendor Relations, worked on strategic Promotions and their execution. My sailing background gave me insight into Product selection & procurement. Held safety meetings before the job to discuss dangers of the job area and the job itself. Collected samples as well as supervised drilling and destruction of wells. Collected soil, water, and vapor samples. I was in the field all the time and learned a lot about time management, field management, working with different personalities (drillers), county inspectors, and the various PGs I was working with.
