I worked at Via networks (http://www.vianetworks.com) UK Network Operations Centre. The job included website migration and Unix server administration, as well as rack-mounting computers and installing leased lines. Whilst at Via I worked as part of a team installing a SNMP network for the UPSs in the data centre. I also worked alone to create a Perl PostgresQL driven application to store information on the hosts located at the data centre. A change in the company's fortunes led to all contract staff being let go and an offer I had of a permanent position being withdrawn

Several roles at Digital Image Design Limited, a developer of civilian and military flight-simulators.As a Technical support engineer I liaised directly with D.I.D.'s customers to solve problems, this often involved working with D.I.D’s programming teams to trace and eliminate program faults. As a Researcher I used Internet and library sources to research weapon systems and vehicles used in D.I.D.’s titles. I was also instrumental in the design of D.I.D.’s reference materials database. As a Technical Writer I provided storyboard scripts during the design stages of D.I.D products. I wrote all of the in-game briefings for “Total Air War” (in an in-house mark-up language). The preparation and editing of copy to be used in manuals for projects that were still under development was also my responsibility.
